SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 2396
with committee amendments
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: FEBRUARY 2, 2009
The Senate Transportation Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 2396 with committee amendments. This amended bill designates the New Jersey Transit railroad station currently known as the "North Hackensack Train Station" as the "Historic New Bridge Landing Station – River Edge, New Jersey," in recognition of strong public sentiment in favor of such a change, the historic character of the area, and the close proximity of the train station to the Historic New Bridge Landing State Park, which commemorates the historic role of the New Bridge Landing area in the struggle for freedom during the American Revolution.
Committee amendments (1) revise the proposed new station name, (2) include among the bill’s legislative findings and declarations language that explicitly recognizes the above-noted grounds for changing the name, and (3) correct references in the bill to the station’s location.
