Bergen County, New Jersey’s most populous county, is home to 70 municipalities and 79 school districts within 247 square miles. How did Bergen become America’s most “boroughized” county? On April 22, 2006, the Bergen County Historical Society will host a Symposium on Home Rule: Political Legacy or Luxury? BCHS President Kevin Wright will present an overview of the Borough Craze, which swept the county between 1894 and 1925. Plans are for 4 local historians to present case studies of specific municipalities, discussing their origins and sense of identity. LOCATION TO BE DETERMINED.
