About the Event
Ponder the means and methods of life back when 'upgrades' came every so many thousands of years, and 'apps' were found in the Elders and acquired through respect.Look through time into the ancient past and see how fiber is separated from plants to be hand-spun into twine. Listen to the cracking of rocks as they are worked into tools with antler, wood and other stones. Primitive technologist Steve Adams offers a demonstration of the hardware which provided for food, clothing and shelter with comfort in Pre-Contact cultures. Discussion will be welcome during this open-air presentation.
The Steuben House, Campbell-Christie House, Demarest House Museum and Barn will be open and staffed by BCHS interpreters. See the wampum exhibit of BCHS collections and arrow made by an upstate NY primitive technologist. Â BCHS collections are throughout the museum site with new exhibits in the Steuben House. Â
Learn about Native American foodways in the Outkitchen. The Outkitchen cooks will be planking a fish, cooking chowder and cornbread with cranberries. Demos onsite include broom-making in the barn & black smithing.Â
Activities for families include corn husk doll making, seed planting, and a scavenger hunt with a new prize. Refreshments will be available for purchase outside the tavern and the gift shop will be open as well.
You can make a ticket reservation: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free.Â
Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses. Social distancing is still encouraged but face masks are optional.
