About the Event

Tickets are available at the gate.

Come celebrate fall with the Bergen County Historical Society at our Harvest Homecoming on Sunday, September 19th, 1 pm- 4:30 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing. 1201 Main Street River Edge NJ 07661.

Activities for families include scarecrow making!, free pumpkin-picking and decorating, and a taste-testing of a variety of apples.

All three 18th century Jersey-Dutch Sandstone houses including the state historic 1752 Steuben House will be open for tours throughout the day. Take the 2:30 pm tour on the 1889 swing bridge.

On display for viewing in the Steuben House will be a new exhibit, The Urn Finial Chairs of the Hackensack Valley, featuring the society’s collection of Hackensack Valley style chairs with their distinctive urn-finials and rush style seats. Do not miss a demonstration on how the rush style seats are made.

Be sure to check out the Lost Art Lacer’s demonstrating their craft of lacemaking.

Stop by the Westervelt-Thomas Barn to see broom making and corn shelling demonstrations and visit with the blacksmith on site to see what kind of wares he is making.

Do not forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey-Dutch out-kitchen where BCHS interpreters will be preparing seasonal 18th century foods including apple and peach galettes in the bake oven and peach fritters on the fire pit.

Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy donuts and hot cider which will be available for purchase outside the tavern.

Per the state parks’ guidelines, face masks and distancing are required inside all historical buildings.

Ticket reservations are required: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free.

Free parking available on site or take the train to “New Bridge Landing” on the Pascack Valley Line. Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.
