About the Event

Spring is finally here and with it the BCHS celebration of Pinkster on Sunday, May 21, from 1-4:30 p.m.

This year’s festivities will include the Tricorne Dance Ensemble dancing to fantastic music of Ridley and Anne Enslow on fiddler and hammered dulcimer. We open with a Libation by Muriel Roberts followed by performances around the Maypole at 1:15 pm & 3:30 pm. Tour the site with broom making in the barn, blacksmithing, egg dyeing and bread baking in the Out Kitchen,  a talk on Jersey-Dutch colonial settlement and Pinkster at the Bridge at 2:30 pm, the houses will be open for tours, demonstrations from the Lost Art Lacers. Refreshments in the Campbell-Christie House.

For the children, there will be colonial games and a Maypole experience at 2:30 pm. Activities for families include colonial games and a scavenger hunt with prize.

This is always a well-attended fun event.

The Steuben House, the Demarest House Museum and the Westervelt-Thomas Barn will be open for tours. The Campbell-Christie House is scheduled for for repairs to the exterior and a new roof but we have a delay so visitors can tour the Campbell-Christie House and enjoy refreshments including donuts and lemonade throughout the day.

The Out Kitchen cooks will be dying eggs using vegetables commonly grown in a Colonial garden. Also, the cooks will fire up the outdoor Bake Oven, planning to bake some new recipes along with old favorites and incorporate sweet strawberries as they will be in season.

New Exhibits in the Steuben House from our collections, we began collecting at our founding in 1902.

You can always duck into one of the houses when the weather is iffy.

Admission: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free. Free parking available on site or take the train to the New Bridge Landing stop on the Pascack Valley line and walk one block north and east.
